Sleep Study Services

The three components of a diagnostic evaluation for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea are:

1. Patient History and Examination
2. Completion of Questionnaires (ESS, STOP-BANG,OSA 50, Berlin questionnaire)
3. Sleep Study

All sleep study reports are thoroughly reviewed by a sleep scientist and a sleep physician. The finalised detailed sleep study report provided is signed-off by an Australia-based specialist and includes recommendations.

Cardiac Diagnostic Services sleep study reports are returned to the clinic within 10 business days and are easily accessible via BeatBox, CDS’ secure, browser-based reporting platform.

• Patients who complain of excessive daytime lethargy or sleepiness.
• Patients whose partners complain of excessive snoring or have witnessed apnoeas.
• Patients can also be at a higher risk of OSA if they have a past history of chronic heart failure, atrial fibrillation, nocturnal hypertension, uncontrolled daytime hypertension and obesity.

There are several treatment options for patients that receive a positive diagnosis for OSA (or other sleep disorders), with the most common being Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy. Treatment recommendations by a sleep physician will be made on the sleep study report.

A Medicare rebate is available for Level 2 Sleep Studies only when patients meet the criteria for moderate to high-risk of OSA. If they are ineligible for the Medicare rebate, patients can have a self funded Level 2 Sleep Study.

All required forms are provided by Cardiac Diagnostic Services and processed via our reporting platform Beatbox. Alternatively, patients that have been assessed and referred by a respiratory and sleep physician also qualify for Medicare reimbursement of a Level 2 home-based sleep study.
